Two of Dewey & LeBoeuf’s four leaders, Richard Shutran and Jeffery Kessler have decided to leave the firm due to the firm’s preparation for mass layoffs of employees and junior lawyers. Shutran, the co-chair of Dewey’s corporate department, is leaving to join O’Melveny & Myers, and Kessler, the chair of Dewey’s litigation department is leaving to join Winston & Strawn.
New Partners at Squire Sanders in China
Squire Sanders has added 4 new partners to its Greater China team at their Beijing, Shanghai, and Hong Kong offices. Corporate specialists Jenny Liu and Xudong Ni have joined their Beijing and Shanghai offices and corporate partner Sin Kiu Ng and intellectual property expert Kam Law have joined their Hong Kong office. Lui focuses primarily on private equity and venture capital investment matters in China. Ni has experience with cross border M&As, FDI, Chinese regulatory issues, and dispute resolution. Ng has experience in IPOs, M&A, and venture capital work. Law is a U.S. patent attorney and is qualified in the U.S. and Hong Kong.
New India Co-Head at Shook Lin
Azmul Haque will be the new co head of Shook Lin & Bok’s India practice in Singapore. Haque was also named a partner of Shook Lin’s corporate and India practices. He was previously a senior associate at Berwin Leighton Paisner working with their corporate finance team on cross border M&As, finance, and commercial transactions involving India and Southeast Asia.
13 New Partners at Amarchand
Amarchand has promoted 13 new partners across India in a variety of practices. Corporate lawyers Amita Choudary, Ipsita Dutta, Aysswarya Murthy, and Vidyut Gulati of New Delhi, and Rashmi Pradeep of Bengaluru were promoted as partners. Naval Chopra and Shweta Shroff Chopra of New Delhi, and Nisha Uberoi of Mumbai were promoted as partners in Amarchands competition practice. Ruchi Mahajan and Jasleen Oberoi of New Delhi, and Indranil Deshmukh of Mumbai were promoted from Amarchand’s disputes practice. IP & patents lawyer Nitin Masilamani of New Delhi and capital markets attorney Gaurav Gupte of Mumbai were also promoted as partners.
3 New Capital Markets Partners at Cadwalader HK
Cadwalader gained 3 new partners for its capital markets practice from Jones Day at their Hong Kong office. These new Cadwalader partners are cross border debt and equity specialists Joseph Lee, Jeffrey Maddox, and David Neuville. Lee’s local Hong Kong firm Joseph P.C. Lee and Associates will form an association with Cadwalader enabling Cadwalader to service local and international clients. Lee specializes in corporate finance and securities transactions. Maddox focuses on international equity and debt transactions in Asia. Neuville specializes in equity and debt securities offerings for companies in North and Southeast Asia.
New Harneys HK Partner
Timothy Bridges has joined Harneys in Hong Kong as a partner, which will surely strengthen their Cayman transactional capacity. Bridges has experience with BVI and Cayman corporate, finance, trust, investment funds, and listing work. He was previously a partner and head of the Asia Cayman Islands practice at Ogier and has been based in Hong Kong for several years.
Nagashima Ohno’s New Dispute Partner
Japanese law firm Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu hired Naoki Iguchi as a partner, strengthening it international dispute resolution team. Iguchi practiced at local firm Anderson Mori & Tomotsune for 12 years and has experience with international disputes, with a focus on construction and other project related matters.
