Amarchand Mangaldas has appointed Yashojit Mitra as a partner in the general corporate practice of its Mumbai office. Mitra is also a qualified solicitor and admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He is a graduate of law from Symbiosis Society’s Law College, Pune (2003) and was awarded the Namdar Gopalakrishna Gokhale Gold Medal by the University of Pune for his LLB. Mitra joins from Economic Law Practice where he was a partner and played an important role in the growth of the corporate and investment fund practice. He specialises in M&A and private equity.

Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer has appointed Arun Balasubramanian as a partner to become co-head of the firm’s India group. Most recently a partner at Linklaters in Singapore with active involvement in the India capital markets practice and its US law practice in Southeast Asia, he is a highly experienced practitioner and a seasoned adviser on a wide range of transactions in India and the region. Educated in India, the United Kingdom and the United States, Balasubramanian was called to the New York Bar in 1998. From 1997 to 2006, he worked at Cravath, Swaine & Moore in New York, Hong Kong and London, before joining Linklaters.

Amarchand & Mangaldas & Suresh A. Shroff & Co. has hired two new partners for its Delhi and Mumbai offices. Sandip Beri is joining Amarchand in Delhi from Citibank India, where he was general counsel. Qualified in India and the U.S., Beri joined Sidley Austin in Chicago as an associate in 1995, leaving five years later for an in-house role in New York with GE Capital. He returned to India in 2007 to become GE’s general counsel in the country, leaving in 2010 for the Citibank role.

In a separate move, Yashojit Mitra is moving to Amarchand’s Mumbai office from local firm Economic Law Practice, where he was partner. Mitra, who is qualified in both India and the U.K., advises on foreign investment deals, including mergers and acquisitions and private equity deals. Prior to joining Economic Law Practices in 2007, he was an associate at DSK Legal in Mumba


Bingham McCutchen has appointed Chris Mizumoto as a partner to its intellectual property group and litigation area in Tokyo. Mizumoto, who joins from DLA Piper, advises major electronics corporations and pharmaceutical clients on US patent litigation and patent prosecution matters, including patent infringement/non-infringement and validity/invalidity opinions. He also counsels clients on issues relating to patent licensing.
